I suppose 'foreign', on a site as multi-national as this, can have many different meanings, generally I am referring to 'non-hollywood', or perhaps 'non-english', but answer how you wish.
Do you enjoy watching foreign movies? Animated or live-action?
I love watching foreign films. I think it is an awesome way to see the world from a different perspective and to realize that we all go through pretty much the same crap. What are your all time favorites?
Shall We Dance (Japanese)
Amelie (French)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (British)
District 9 (New Zealand)
The Apartment (Spanish)
Ringu (Japanese)
The Audition (Japanese)
Internal Affairs (Japanese/Korean...I am not really sure
Appleseed (Anime)
Perfect Blue (Anime
Which cultures (nations) films do you find yourself most interested in?
Mostly Asian, British, and French
Do you prefer dubs over original language, in live-action and/or animated?
I prefer subtitled versions. The english voices almost never fit the characters, especially on Anime. I don't mean lip-syncing either.
How did you find yourself becoming interested in foreign films, (i.e. Audrey Tautou obsession, Asian horror obsession, general interest in foreign culture)?
It started with Anime and grew to other Asian Films. Oddly though, I never got into Kung Fu movies. It spread to other countries when I was married. We would get really close under a blanket and watch movies with subtitles. She couldn't read as fast, so I would sometimes have to pause it, or tell her what it said.
What 'hyped' foreign film has let you down upon viewing it (if any)?
I never pay attention to hype.
How do you feel about remakes, are there any that have been pulled off successfully?
There are none that have been pulled off successfully.
Shall We Dance lost all of its meaning.
The horror films all have the story changed enough to be nowhere near as good as the original.
Vanilla Sky is STILL better in the Spanish version in spite of being a line for line, scene for scene, and one same actress/character remake.
And The Departed, while good, is still not as good as the Internal Affairs trilogy.
That's all .
