I'm rereading LotR and I'm of the opinion Jackson did a terrific job with the movies. Ghavrel Send a noteboard - 24/10/2017 12:30:49 AM

Certainly things get moved around all the time, but they seem thematically appropriate. Yes, Gandalf never talks about "a far green country under a swift sunrise"--that's a dream Frodo has in the house of Tom Bombadil--but it seems a proper appropriation. And honestly, an enormous amount was kept nearly verbatim, and to great effect.

Maybe I just don't appreciate the novels sufficiently.

If it's any consolation, the Hobbit films were the first time I've ever been actively angry at how bad a movie was.

"We feel safe when we read what we recognise, what does not challenge our way of thinking.... a steady acceptance of pre-arranged patterns leads to the inability to question what we are told."
