How does a person not know that using steel wool/steelo pads/brillo pads/metallic scrubbing thingies is bad for non-stick pots and pans? Have his parents never made him clean a thing in his life?
I really hate that asking him not to do that makes me feel like I'm a mean and horrible person.
Can't wait till June next year. We'll have a new house (will hopefully own it) and our own space and then I won't feel like I have to tread carefully in my own home.

He is lucky you only asked him not to do that. I have been known to threaten violence to anyone who so much as looked at one of my non-stick pans with a metal anything in their hand - usually wielding aforementioned pan as a weapon for emphasis. I also made someone buy me a new one when they scratched my favourite non stick frying pan to bits. So don't feel bad, you're being nice about it

I once I had a roommate who would use a metal spatula on my nonstick pans all the time. I once got a huge rock and painted "WTF" on it, and then dropped that massive WTF on him -- did no good. Some people are just dense, and by some people, I mean everyone but Kuke and I.

Hahaha, my parents also never made me clean a thing. But, I did have the common sense to not use steel spoons or steel scrubbers on non-stick pans when I started my own cooking at grad school. Spare him for his ignorance, and tell him the correct procedure.

I understand, but you gotta educate him/her. There isnt any other way I can think of. If he is a good guy, he will understand, else keep your pans under lock and key
