I don't understand why so many people were worried that their Medicare was going to evaporate. If anything, the bill appears to be expanding it?

A large segment of the media and the establishment have been crying bloody murder over any reform whatsoever, labeling it as fascist, communist, socialist, and any other words (which in tandem make zero sense since many of those are diametrically opposed to one another) which they believe hold shock value and might stick. One of the many avenues of attack was that the Democrats were looking to "take your Medicare and use it to fund socialized medicine" (completely ignoring the fact that Medicare is socialized medicine and the only bill which was ever proposed that involved getting rid of Medicare was a Republican one, to boot).

It's a consequence of the modern era where people can choose their own brand of information, where opinion and conjecture is injected into it and referred to as the "news" - they choose what invalidates and exaggerates their own opinion to begin with, rather that being informed of the reality of the situation.

We can't pay for the subsidies; even after the tax hike they increase debt in the short term. - 23/03/2010 04:12:14 PM 406 Views
