1. She was in hospital because she was miscarrying. The hospital knew this - they admitted her.

2. Miscarriage can take weeks, during which time the mother can develop septicaemia, which happened in this case.

3. She was 17 weeks pregnant.

4. How many babies of 17 weeks gestation can survive if their mother dies? None. They are not developed enough yet.

5. Two lives were lost here because the hospital thought it couldn't save the one life it was possible to save. It is IMPOSSIBLE to save the life of a baby that is miscarrying at 17 weeks.

That is why it should be legal for abortions to be performed when the mother's life is in danger. And as a "pro-lifer" myself, I find it difficult to call it abortion when the child is being lost naturally through miscarriage.
