So Scotland may be the first part of the UK, subject to the expected passing of the bill and legal challenges. Though it might not even be part of the UK by then, who knows?

The article does say "could" in its first paragraph. I tried to mitigate for their headline in my post title. Tried and failed? :P

Happily I would expect within the next few years gay marriage will be passed into law in Scotland, England and Wales.

That would be good.

No idea what will happen with Northern Ireland - they tend to be a bit closer to the Republic than the rest of the UK when it comes to civil rights.
