America, for example; Mexico, Canada, pretty much all of Western Europe, I believe (but am not sure) Japan, etc. etc. As you said, a truly free market cannot exist, so when any democratic (i.e. non-fascist) state retains private enterprise, guess where you are (hint: It starts with "s" and ends with "ocialism.")
I also believe you will find that the "Red" Chinese government did not exactly "pacify" the public in response to Tianenmen (except in the traditional way Chinese autocrats "pacify" the public: "Tell it to the gulag guards, traitor....") In terms of government, the main impacts Tiananmen had were:
1) Many idealistic young political reformers who had moved up in government over the past decade were discredited at best and imprisoned at worst and
2) Many hardliners (such as the mayor of Beijing) saw their rank in the national party skyrocket as a reward for brutalizing protesters.
