Now, antagonistic paragraph out of the way, let me tell you why I agree with him. In short: roads are made for cars. You know that, I know that. We can argue the point if you're in the mood for it, but hopefully we can just agree that roads are pretty obviously designed for cars. However, it's quite true that the law also permits cyclists to utilize the roads. Too, good citizens have to obey such laws, and the vast, VAST majority of us do.

is silly.

Roads were not made specifically for cars. Roads were made for traffic. Bicycles make up that traffic. Once upon a time, roads were made for horses, wagons, carriages. Heck, take it back to the origin of roads, and they were made for infantry. The point of roads is to move people from one place to another quickly.

Bicycles existed before cars, and they did not stop existing when cars came into being. Before cars existed, bikes were on the roads, and they have been together on roads from that time to the present day.

Yes, there should be lanes for bicycles to keep cyclists safe from faster traffic. But since most places do not have those lanes, drivers and cyclists need to pay attention to each other, drive/cycle sensibly, and observe the rules of the road that everyone learns from a young age.

And I very much doubt that your road rules fail to have a section or points about driving around cyclists.
