But then I decided that the small amount of Trapis was about perfect. He's a significant, but not hugely so, part of Kvothe's life. The way he was written makes us remember him, but he doesn't gain a huge prominence in the story. I think that's almost exactly how a person like that would remain in someone's memory: a beacon of light in a dark time that we'd rather forget.
