Most good fiction does not fall too neatly into any one genre, and I can understand it when authors are reluctant to be pigeonholed just because there is a space ship in the book.


I've often heard that authors don't want to belong to any one genre.

But then there are people like Iain Banks who use (slightly) different names depending on the genre of their books, so clearly some are happy about it.
