The latest scandal in the world of publishing: NBA asks Lauren Myracle to withdraw her book. Rebekah Send a noteboard - 17/10/2011 07:24:12 PM
Basically, the awards committee made a fubar over the phone, and the person taking notes on the shortlist of nominations misheard Chime as Shine. This error was "corrected" by having a shortlist of 6 instead of 5 books, which all sounds fine.

However, the awards chairman has since asked the author of Shine to withdraw her book from the competition "to preserve the integrity of the awards". What? How on earth does that make anything better?

Apparently the author is being all kinds of amazingly classy about this, but naturally Twitter and the blogosphere are up in arms.

I'm linking you to a blog by Libba Bray, because I found it interesting and think you might too.
