I think you've hit the nail on the head, actually. Rebekah Send a noteboard - 10/10/2011 06:43:02 PM
The first suggestion has a bit of a romantic bent to it - it's not a big thing, as I usually avoid overly soppy plots and characters, but the books are well merry and fun with charming characters, good writing and a touch of the supernatural about them (until the third book, anyway). Deanna Raybourn's Silence in the Grave is (I think) the first of the series. Lots of fun! I strongly recommend. Murder mysteries in the spirit of Georgette Heyer, really.

I've read the first of those and quite enjoyed it. Apparently my Mother has read them all. I have no idea how she got her hands on 'em, but as she's in NZ I cannae borrow. :[

Secondly, Diana Wynne Jones. Always a good comfort read. Always.

She is lovely.

And Sherwood Smith's Crown Jewels, which (I think) is a duology that I have in one volume. Merry old fantasy romance - it's one of the few that I bought *because* of the romance and I'm not even a little ashamed.

I want to find this. Fits my mood perfectly. Thank you.
