I can't think of a great example right now, but I wouldn't disagree with you about some stories requiring mystery in order to be enjoyed. It just seems like a lot of people avoid spoilers as a matter of course (the internet is full of people getting mad about the tiniest spoiled fact), when it's possible that they might be better off having things spoiled in the majority of cases.
Anyway I'm not really trying to argue that case myself, I just think it's an interesting thought, especially since it seems to agree with my personal preferences.

Interesting article: "Spoilers don't spoil anything."

I sometimes find spoilers can ADD tension (a *MAJOR* aDwD spoiler contained within!!!)

I think in many cases there certainly is an "intended" way to enjoy a book...

It really depends on the story, and of course on the reader.

I pretty much agree with your opinion here. It depends on the spoiler and the book.
