Boarder Patrol: a Spring wander around the Messageboards at Read And Find Out
Rebekah Send a noteboard - 27/03/2011 04:08:34 PM
Um. I might have forgotten to do this in February, but I had a good excuse.
As March is nearly over, so here’s what we’re doing on Read and Find Out.
Books Messageboard
Our March/April challenge is to read book by an author from a country you’ve not read a book from before. Here’s what people have chosen: The Not-So-Dirty Half Dozen.
nossy feels a little conflicted about Portnoy’s Complaint by Philip Roth.
Foxhead has a few questions about Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell, and wants to know which authors to follow on Twitter.
There is a lot of commentary about two recent releases: TheWise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss and The Crippled God by Steven Erikson.
In News this month: we say a sad goodbye to the wonderful Diana Wynne Jones, and Genre For Japan auctions a list of excellent things.
Finally, please give your thoughts on Book Clubs and the like at this thread: Books Board Update.
Wheel of Time Messageboard
HyogaRott wants to know about gholam...s (what the heck’s the plural?) and stasis boxes.
rempires discusses a recent tweet by Sanderson with implications for AmoL: here.
MalkierKnight wants to know which Forsaken are still alive at the end of Towers of Midnight.
And there’s more, including a resurrected year-old post that was a little controversial, so have a look for yourselves.
TV & Movies Messageboard
Camilla’s delighted by “cameo” appearances by actors before they were famous: lookit.
Helene finds that The Tudors wasn’t particularly interested in historical accuracy...
Movie and TV news: trailers for Captain America, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is signed to new Batman film The Dark Knight Rises, and the first prequel for the new season of Doctor Who is released.
Plus discussion on Paul, Nazi-era films, and we say goodbye to screen legend Elizabeth Taylor.
Games Messageboard
Dannymac needs an intervention after getting attached to Magic: The Gathering: help him here.
Timthetrolloc wants help with Final Fantasy XII.
Dark Knight disowns the Xbox 360.
And there are reviews and discussions on many other things, including Dragon Age 2, so get involved.
Role Playing Messageboard
(I often get this wrong out of complete lack of understanding of this board, so please do correct me if I misrepresent you. It’s not my fault I’m dense.)
Kronin al’Sulc wants to know who’s interested in joining Mafia 5: sign up here.
There are other games going on (maybe), but from what I can tell the current rounds have concluded so keep your eyes out for the next step. Or something.
Finally, Rebekah wants someone from the RPG board to let her know what’s going on (she’ll send an NB when she’s about to do a new Boarder Patrol) so who’d like to volunteer?
Community Messageboard
Our webmaster Ben (Nebhead, in case you didn’t know) celebrates his birthday on 27 March so say Happy Birthday to him here.
There’s lots of dating discussion, we’re such an attractive bunch.
snoopcester and others discuss appropriate responses to bullying following a much-publicised high school incident.
And we say congratulations to nossy and snoopcester on the announcement of their engagement. All the best to both of you!
That’s all for now! Have a browse through our boards and see what else is out there on Read And Find Out. It’s more fun when you get involved.
