A reminder about our November/December Book Club – and a different way of doing things.

Hello Rafonauts
Our Book Club pick for November/December is The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay. It's a truly wonderful book, so I encourage all of you to pick it up, read it, and get involved.
You might notice that the Book Club is for November/December, instead of November with a people's choice book in December. We admins had a good discussion about what we were going to do in the face of flagging interest and the holiday season. This seems the most sensible option. We'll shift our people's choice Book Club to be the first of 2011.
So. The details.
We'll put up the official Book Club thread on Thursday 18 November. We'll leave it announced for a month, giving you all a lot of time to get the book, read it, and join in, if you want to.
And the different way of doing things?
We're going to make this a mix between our regular Book Club style and the format for the Harry Potter Reread. It will work like this:
- on Thursday we'll announce the thread.
- it will start with 4 or 5 chapter-oriented sub-threads. The size of each section is currently undetermined. We'll work it out based on what's natural for the book.
- these chapter sub-threads will allow people who haven't finished the book to join in from (more or less) the start of the Book Club. You can just add your thoughts about each section as you finish it.
- there'll also be the usual character/theme/overall questions we have in Book Club threads, so people who have finished the book can discuss things in more general detail. Of course, you can be involved in both parts!
We're trialling this as a way to generate more discussion and allow people who read more slowly to feel a part of the Book Club from early on. Hopefully this will mean we'll have a more vibrant discussion. Fingers crossed.
If it works we may use it for future Book Clubs.
