I imagine it might've been a lot of fun as you describe. She could learn a lot of curses from him, and they'd have a lot of banter.
Still, I always thought from the first that Elayne didn't see much in Mat. There can't really be any attraction when you have a low regard for someone. She always assumed that Mat was less than he really is. I think she first met him when he was deathly ill, so...
