OK, I'll have pie on my face if I'm misremembering here, but doesn't Rand tie off Avi's gateway when she flees to Seanchan and he saves her from drowning, and they make love for the first time?
Seems to me he blocks here gateway and follows. When they return, it is smaller, but still held open. And, of course, surrounded by Seanchan.
Yep, I'm correct, tFoH, Ch. 31 "The Far Snows."
It's the most blatant example I can think of, as it:
1) Isn't Rand's gateway, and
2) Is woven with the opposite half of the Power.

He doesn't tie her gateway off. He uses a weave to keep her gateway from collapsing when she releases it. It's a rare weave.
Rand does in fact tie off gateways when he makes deathgates, with loose knots.
