I don't have it handy, but RJ said (might have even been in the weekly Q&A) that the DO *couldn't* bring Asmo back.

IIRC, it was something along the lines of "the DO couldn't bring Asmo bsck because of a combination of the manner and place of his death." I always took that to suggest that Asmo ended up in TaR (because I can't imagine how dying any other place than TaR, Portal Stone worlds, or Aelfinn & Eelfinn territory would make a diff). And I took that as evidence in favor of Slayer, not a Forsaken.
