I assume it was the fourth or third age before the first age because time is a wheel. But what ended the fourth age, and how did the first age start.

I assume there was a battle between the Dark One and the good. And the good won. These battles that repeat themselves etc.

If we assume that "randland" is Earth in the future. Could a nuclear war have destroyed so much nobody remembered much about it. However there where mutations which gave rise to Ogiers, wolfmen, genes that gave some humans the ability to use the powers.

In rebuilding things during the first age they found technology that they altered with the help of their newfound power and soon most lived good lives and forgot about the last age? And that is why they did not know where the Dark One's prison was.

We see things that reminds of helicopters and other things when Rand go through that thingy in the Aiel desert that I forgot the name of.

My rambling is done. :)

Other people will be able to give you a better answer than me, but I'm pretty sure there are seven ages. The AoL is the 2nd age, and the Rand age is the 3rd age. Our time is assumed to be the 1st age (I think). It's probable that people in the AoL remembered many things from our age, and the reason that they are now forgotten is due to the breaking, rather than a cataclysm at the end of the 1st age (and 6000 or so years of history).

So, people in the AoL were more than likely aware of, and developed, the technology of the 1st age.

The seventh (and final) age, can probably be attributed to the preiod we call pre-history. This of course, alludes to the fact that humans will become extinct in either the 4th, 5th or 6th ages.

The ages I wasn't sure about, but I do not think the first age was our age. Because they had magic, and we don't. And ogier and other things. From what we saw through Rand's eyes the descriptions make no sense even if you have never seen vehicles like helicopters etc. It is in the future, but I cannot see how this would be earth in the future without some kind of cataclysm to end wars and mutations to gain powers. This would be such a huge event it must have been an end of an age.
