Yes, but it's not likely. Even with Lanfear's Shield, he was stronger than an average Aes Sedai, and we've seen Moiraine and other Sisters react very quickly to sudden threats.
Not really knocking your theory down, but we've seen too many weaves and effects described as complicated be woven in a heartbeat to really think an assassin holding a knife could kill Asmodean with one blow without reprisal. Moghedien, for example, was struck with an arrow by Birgitte and still had the willpower to trigger an effect in moments before Birgitte, a heroic individual and seasoned archer, could ready, aim and fire.

Slayer migt have used a quicker and deadlier weapon than a knife, e.g. a crossbow with poisoned bolts, besides that, Slayer has Powers we don't know about yet, according to BS. If Asmo considered for a moment (namely when he said "You?" ) that Slayer might have come to rescue him, this could have been the crucial eyeblink he acted too slow. We know that Slayer took the Gray Man's crossbow in TDR and likes to use deadly poison. But as I also mentioned several times now, if - as RJ stated - Fain with his dagger had killed Asmo in this situation, the professional assassin Slayer certainly could have succeeded as well.

I think Fain would be more likely.

Fain was always just a crackpot candidate, but RJ has ruled him out as a suspect anyway.

LOL. I'd like to see Rand squeeze out a "You? No!" while that knife was in flight. *NM*
