Sorry if it's been raised before.
1. what if someone opened a gateway into the pantry but had not stepped through yet and is therefore still wherevere they are--presumably not in the palace or at least not near the scene.
2. asmo is standing halfway in and halfway out of the gateway when he stops and is killed.
3. if the killer used balefire while standing in the other location, would channelers in the palace have been able to detect it?
4. is asmo's absolute death caused b/c he was standing in the gateway when bf'd?
If the answer to 3 is no this may support the channeler dunnit supporters.
If i recall correctly, there was a Q&A where RJ stated that balefire didnt necessarily prevent the DO from transmigrating a soul. Clearly it contradicts what the DO says in the story as well as general consensus. i'll try to find the quote.
Re 4. i admit this is entirely unsupported. just threw it in there. i thought that perhaps if Asmo is standing in two places at one time when he was killed, perhaphs his soul is also in two places at once. Perhaps that prevented transmigration?
i really dont like the idea because there is no basis for most of my thoughts.
But it al stemmed from my thought on how the killer could be a channeler and kill with the OP but not be detected. Made me think that if there was a gateway and the channeler was standing on the other side, and channeled from the other side, then perhaps it would not be detected even tho the weave's effect went through the gateway.
Also i just have to state that i dont support the channer dunnit theory but i had the thought so i posted it.

The problem with this theory is that Bel'al was irrevocably killed by balefire.
