There is an overwhelming sense that as many non-Dark people as possible must work in unison, and that's what makes me think this way. Remember the Emond's Fielder's fighting - all the men and the women together, and the neighboring villages coming to fight with them? Or all the little fireflies trying to stop the darkness in Min's visions? Good bands together, and whups the Dark hard...
I figure as the most dedicated and peaceful of all, the Tinkers are real enemies of the Shadow, even if they don't fight. And we learned that the Song used to keep people fed and stop the Dark from affecting the crops.
They really should be there, and it's almost certain that Perrin, not Rand, would be the person to bring them along.
