I think that Perrin, the wolfbrothers and the wolves need to reach a part of the darkhounds that remember what it is to be wolves, so that they will destroy themselves or revert to their original forms - I think their souls need to be saved.
I say this because it is obvious that the darkhounds are far too lethal an enemy for a normal wolf, wolfbrother or warrior to defeat in a hand to hand conflict.
P.S. I hope that Elyas Machera doesn't die.
