I just don't see a "Wheel of Time" game being a mass-market success - it is not that accessible, and only a certain kind of reader has become addicted to it.
In order for it to be successful, it's going to have to either polarize the fans by making it more accessible, or cater to them by being very faithful to theme and limitations of Robert Jordan's universe.
MMO-style format doesn't work because there can only be one Dragon Reborn, and everyone else is along for the ride or moving a step or two behind him. A traditional adventure-style format won't work, because it is hard to convince players to settle for being second string heroes, let alone third stringers. If they are not in a strong, primary position, what are they going to do while they are waiting for the story to move forward? Fetch quests?
It would be interesting to see how they handle the need for interactivity in a video game versus a storyline that is heavy on the narrative.

Are they going to set it in the present? Why can't they set it during the Trolloc Wars?
