2. People mention about Mat's section being off, but it doesn't affect me one way or the other. BS is, if I recall correctly, a fan of Mat. I wonder if that hurt him being able to write him. An unbiased attitude is needed to write any character.

I seem to be in the minority here, but I thought:

1) You can try to write a lot of things in an another author's style, but humor-- even light banter-- is not one of them. That has to be your own.
2) Mat wasn't changed that much
3) It was really Talmanes who was different
4) The change in Mat was well-justified, because he'd been in Tuon's company the previous several books and he's just coming to grips with being married

5. I like Cadsuane, but I have been waiting for someone to stand up to her. I was shocked and excited to see Tam do it.

Boo-yah! And she deserved it. She was close to doing the right thing, really, but then messed it up horribly by giving Tam secret instructions to lead the conversation a certain way. She should've said, "I want you to talk to Rand, but it's none of my business what you discuss. And you should warn him that I brought you here."

6. What's up with the ghost precession that Nynaeve saw. I have a feeling there is an explanation for this.

We've got bad weather, food spoilage, ghosts, bubbles of evil, people turning into insect swarms, and a whole village playing "Groundhog Day".

I think it's just another thing.

But I also think that the ghosts, unlike most of the other stuff, are part of the Wheel reaching an Age limit rather than the work of the Dark One.

10. I would really like to find out how Verin detected so many of the BA. None of the other BA seemed to have been able to get near to duplicating that feat despite having a motivation to do so. Perhaps we can get a clue in WH when Verin talks with Cadsuane and becomes convinced that Cadsuane was trustworthy. I saw nothing. Perhaps some more eyes on it might find something.

Never underestimate a scholar.

One trick: Her weave might not have been able to compel Blacks to reveal their allegiance directly, but she could easily use it to nudge someone into trying to lie. If she fails to lie, she's clean; otherwise, Black Ajah.

12. Speaking of Verin again. Will we see her other letters come into play?

Mat's letter is an obvious setup (by the author, no necessarily by Verin). Mat wanted to make a promise to wait 30 days, period, no letter involved. But he was set up:

Verin: "You can wait thirty days, or you can open the ltter after ten days and do what it says. One of the two, Matrim. I have your word?"
Mat: "You do."

Sometime between ten and thirty days, Mat will be confronted with an absolutely dire reason to leave Caemlyn. The letter is opened. Hilarity ensues.

14. What's up with Laras? Verin mentions that Laras is MANY things. My first thought long ago was that she was Mesaana. It seems very unlikely, though, since she is too much of a character for someone to take over without it being obvious. My best guess is that Laras is an agent for the Kin.

I'm not sure there'd be a point to that. The Aes Sedai knew about the Kin before the books began, right? And the Kin only help those who are put out of the Tower, not runaways. So they would have no need of an agent inside the Tower.
