No channeler is going to be able to resist a Shield of Spirit 4 times as strong as she is. That would be like Verin resisting Rand's shield on her own. There's not much skill involved there, just an overhwelmingly powerful Shield of Spirit.
The fact of the matter is that Alivia is PATHETICALLY skilled, if she could not even do that. So she's not really a good example to go by.
I don't think so. Something about the mechanics of this seems off - there have been plenty of other instances when a shield would have been more effective and was not used; something tells me it isn't so simple.
I think shielding is best done when the opponent is caught by surprise, otherwise they can fend it off considering they have enough skill/strength.
Keep in mind that this wasn't a fight where one was meant to take prisoners. The defenders were aware they'd be facing the Forsaken; I don't think they were interested in capturing them, just defending with all they've got.
IIRC, Verin, the ever studious Brown, is the only one who attempts a shield. She believes a captured Forsaken more useful than a dead one. Verin is the exception, IMO.
It seems to me that shielding isn't as simple as it seems. And a failed attempt could cost you your life ... RIP Kumira!

Yes...1 OC fight trumps all the times when we have seen Rand's strength send Forsaken skill running *NM*

The line can be blurry between Rand and LTT (most skilled channeler evaaaah)

IMO, that had nothing to do with skill in the OP

Well, Alivia could just have shielded Cyndane, no sweat, just like Rand shielding Verin...

My intent was to show that skill makes up for strength differentials
