I can't see it being another way. That whole scene was intended to show Moridin in a very impressive light. Yes, he's evil and wants the end of the world, but he has reasons for wanting that that aren't completely personal.
I just don't see a "mistake" being slipped into that scene. The Balefire thing came up on its own, with no prompting by Rand. The only thing Moridin could have done to make his manipulation clearer is say "hint hint" at the end of that sentence!

Actually, I agree. Even if Moridin's decision to reveal the information was spur-of-the-moment, I don't think it was a "mistake". I think he revealed the information deliberately. I'm just trying to puzzle out the whole purpose.
Ahhh.. but what if a huge palace with a large number of people is Balefired, and the Foresaken supposedly in it does not die?
Yes, I acknowledged that in the next sentence. But the question I have is, is it possible that Moridin foresaw Rand/LTT being willing to use massive amounts of Balefire at the time he revealed the information to Rand? That's what I have doubts on.
I agree that his link with Rand may have enabled him to "see" Rand's plan to BF Graendal & her whole mansion after Rand conceived it. I'm just not sure that he could have foreseen it when he revealed the information. At that time, it seems more likely to me that he would only have considered the possibility that Rand would BF individual Forsaken, not mansions worth of bystanders.
In other words, Moridin (probably) wasn't counting on Rand using massive amounts of BF when he provided the info.
This doesn't even have to be fully Graendal's plan. Moridin could have pressured her to lure Rand to her. And with his access to Rand's mind, could have figured out his plan, and warned Graendal to make it seem like she is dead by Balefire.
This serves two purposes. First, this one event itself will have massively destabilized the Pattern.
Second, it makes Rand think that massive uses of Balefire are a good way to kill the Forsaken. If the super brainy Graendal is dead this way, why not try it on the others?
And we see that it happens. Rand thinks of Balefiring the Seanchan as well.

That scenario is plausible, it seems to me, once Moridin learned (through the link) of Rand's plan re Graendal. But before that?
It's just hard for me to believe that the Shadow could have predicted that Rand would actually use enough BF to affect the Pattern significantly, if it were revealed to him that BF prevents transmigration. It's a big leap, to assume the former from the latter.

Why did Moridin reveal that balefire prevents transmigration?

Yep, I'm not really 100% on most things in the series unless there is no doubt.
