I don't quite recall what Moiraine sacrificed, exactly. I didn't like New Spring and have never reread it, so...

Basically, Moiraine was a generic full-of-dreams Accepted. Then she and Siuan heard Gitara's Foretelling. She and Siuan played a little Accepted game where they got a list of everyone who had had a child in the three weeks there had been snow on Dragonmount.

Then they found out the Amyrlin was assasinated, as was every single Aes Sedai she had summoned to find the Dragon. So, they were two (even more inexperienced than Egwene, Elayne and Nynaeve) Accepted who took on the task of finding the Dragon Reborn, knowing full well that they were up against the entire Black Ajah, and couldn't risk asking for help lest they be slaughtered.

As I said before, Verin comes close, but she didn't have the terror of actively dodging the Black Ajah for 20 years.
I amuse myself.
