I don't think whether you are a user of saidin or saidar matters as much as holding the Power, bracing yourself for the effects of the Compulsion weave and how skillfully the Compulsion is woven for a more Powerful attack on the target's mind. You don't need to see a weave to know it is there, prepare for it or neutralize it - for example Shields, detecting flows of the opposing Power and Lanfear's neutralization of Rand's weaves. The strength of the Compulsion weave itself could neutralize a strong channeler even if they were holding as much Power as they could...all the Compeller would need to do is use a hypnotic suggestion so strong that the target's desire to hold the One Power as a protection is affected.

But my main idea is that being in the presence of the Dark One offers a protection due to the magnitude of His presence compared to the relative weakness of an untrained use of Compulsion. Semirhage, for example, might have thought "That chair is trying to make me obey the Empress...but I obey a greater, more worthy master." The feelings Lanfear demonstrated in TSR mirror a more-heavy handed use of Compulsion, and it has been said that the Collapse unleashed the dark side of certain personalities - key elements of the Forsaken's personalities may have been compromised upon coming into the Dark One's presence making most Compulsion have a limited effect.
"Those who think they have no time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness."
