She's not immortal ... yet darius_sedai Send a noteboard - 20/01/2010 04:15:03 PM
How about it simply cuts your REMAINING life expectancy in half. Besides this would not be an issue with Mesanna because she is immortal due to tha DO's influance, she is not aging.

It would have taken some time off the end of her life perhaps, however I doubt it would have killed her outright, otherwise it would be a death sentance, and the Age of Legends was about peace and harmony

And, I doubt AoLers would have created a ter'angreal that could only be used on AS who were younger than a certain age, or hadn't reached the mid-point of their lifespans, etc. They would have created something that could be used on a channeler of any age, IMO.

Semirhage's choice of punishment was severing or 'being bound against her pleasures and seeing the end of her life approach'. It seems that the Oath Rod creates a finite limit on a channeler's life. Considering almost no Aes Sedai live past 300, it fits in well with a calculable lifespan after being bound.

IMO the rod cuts your life in half, and while most strong women live to about 700 years, a bound woman lives for half that. If Mesaana is 300 years old, it might have aged her instantly.

That's the reward once the DO is free. At this point they FS are still technically aging
