And it didn't protect Elayne from Moghedien's compulsion either darius_sedai Send a noteboard - 19/01/2010 05:46:54 PM
"Threads Woven of Shadow":

In fact, [Graendal] might have been the best at [Compulsion] who ever lived. [Demandred] let the gateway vanish but held on to saidin; those tricks did not work on someone wrapped in the Source.

We know the Forsaken have a weave that not only disguises the ability to channel, but also the "glow" of holding the Source. It's extremely probable that Semi would just hold onto saidar whenever she was near the Crystal Throne, and thus remain unaffected by its Compulsion-esque abilities.

This is the likely explanation. It also is probably why Rand was immune to the compulsion that Alanna tried to use on him via the bond. He was holding the power at the time.

Though it does beg the question why this did not protect the AS bonded by Logain and his men. Oh, wait they were all shielded first. I guess that means that once you get compelled, the compulsion is not removed even if you touch the source afterwards.

What about Cyndane and Moghedien though? Did Graendal not use compulsion on them during that encounter when Shaidar Haran met her. I seem to remember Moghedien channeling all the lights off atleast. Did both of them release the power instantly afterwards in preparation for SH's arrival. I suppose thats possible given their unfortunate experiences with him. Not wanting to appear threatening and all that.

I will say that Demandreds words (wrapped in the source) could in theory be a poetic description of somekind of compulsion-protection shield that he "wraps" around himself with the source. Though I personally doubt this is what he means.

Veils

The woman who stepped into the Chamber of Falling Blossoms, in a shimmering black silk gown of unfamiliar cut, was no one Elayne had ever seen before, and surely not on the list of the women who had gone with Liandrin. Dark hair spilling loose to her shoulders framed a sturdily handsome face with large, dark eyes and smooth cheeks, but not with Aes Sedai agelessness. Smiling, she closed the door behind her. "Forgive me, but I thought you were—" The glow of saidar surrounded her, and she...

Elayne released the True Source. There was something very commanding in those dark eyes, in the halo around her, the pale radiance of the One Power. She was the most regal woman Elayne had ever seen. Elayne found herself hurriedly curtsying, flushing that she had considered... What had she considered? So hard to think.
