What you suggested is pretty much what I've always thought ... Shishka Send a noteboard - 18/01/2010 08:39:30 PM
Kind of like simple answers for something like this ... I tend to think each Oath cuts Lifespan by x%, thus the more you take the shorter your lifespan.

If you assume you cut 25% off for each Oath you have a woman who would have lived 700 years would live about 525 years with 1 Oath, but only 394 with 2 Oaths and about 295 with 3 Oaths and perhaps only 220 with a 4th and so on...

Now if the same woman takes the Oaths at 300 I tend to think it would cut her remaining lifespan thus she would live for 168 additional years (400 years left to live -25% for each oath). But who knows!

... it's just that, in that quote I provided, RJ used the word "shorten" re 1 oath, and "cap" re 3 oaths. Which sort of suggests that there is a fundamental different between the two.

If each oath just shortened one's life by X%, then the use of the word "cap" doesn't really make much sense.

But maybe "cap" means that the X% shortening per oath only works up to 3 oaths - no additional affect for 4 or more oaths. That would "cap" the amount of shortening a person could get. *shrugs*

Rise and fall, turn the Wheel,
'cause all life is
is really just a circle.
