And yet surely this is something that people should have noticed? I mean if _every female AS_ who goes near LTT suddenly decides that joining him is a bad idea, then surely he would go "wait just a minute here" and realise that maybe the pattern is trying to tell him something. Ofcourse if he had decided not to go through with it, the DO would probably have broken free and won.
Duh. Even at the price of tainting saidin, sealing the Bore was a bargain. However there is no indication that LTT realised anything like that. So presumably ta'veren influence, if it happened, was not obvious. But how could every female AS suddenly turning against LTT not be obvious?
It can be obvious, AND irrelevant. Should they have decided to let the Dark One run free while puzzling out the ramifications of the Pattern's apparent interference?I wonder if this is a plothole by RJ who messed up with the numbers. Or if not, could there be something special about the people LTT wanted to join him in a link. Wot encyc. says that LPD convinced all the strongest AS not to help him, but even then why not just create a bigger link with more women? I mean LTT could have found women who can barely channel and created a link of 72 instead. Heck why not do that from the start? Surely for this kind of hugely important thing you would want the best possible link, especially if more OP strength was important. And yet he wanted 13 channelers. And in TGS he says that brute force was not the answer. So what happened? How did LPD neutralise his plan so easily?
I was wondering if there might not be another reason that has yet to be revealed. Could there be somekind of talent required to manipulate the bore/pattern and that despite the vast number of AS, only a small amount could help LTT due to this. And LPD convinced those few people not to help. That might explain things maybe?
We know that some people are good at healing. Others have foretellings or can see ta'veren. Could there potentially be a similar talent when it comes to using the OP to manipulate the pattern/reality? LTT might have had this talent strongly along with the men he wanted in the circle, but he needed 7 women with the same talent and they were very rare. This might explain how LPD was able to neutralise LTT. She did not need to convince the entire AS army to oppose LTT, just the few selected AS who had this rare talent.
Thoughts?
IIRC, all the women signed onto the Fateful Compact, or whatever they called it, by the end. The Talents of the people in a circle are irrelevant. What matters is the Talents of the person leading the circle. I think it more likely that LTT needed a closer balance of saidin and saidar in order to do it properly. Too much saidin in the mix would unbalance the weave, while getting a slew of weaker women to try to match the raw strength of the men would no doubt have the same effect.I was wondering if there might not be another reason that has yet to be revealed. Given the major theme of balance between the genders, I think this idea is the most plausible reason.
