That even some friends of LTT changed sides, and the Forsaken comment on LTT's arrogance. Of course, it's understandable since LTT was the most powerful man in the world. However, I think it's also human that this would eventually draw certain envy or dissents in the Hall, so that Latra could become such an important player. I also think it's human to blame the leader, if things aren't going very well, even if it might be unfair. It's similar to the politicians in our real life.
Well, first of all, I dismiss the comments of the forsaken outright. These are the people who defected to the shadow and started committing horrible atrocities and mass murdering people left and right. Obviously they would insult LTT since he was their opponent.
The only thing this tells us was that LTT was too trusting of those near him. He should have been more suspicious of the forsaken and seen the character flaws in them. Certainly we cannot blame LTT for the fact that they changed sides. You don't join the side of an Evil God who is trying to decimate the world just because you don't like your boss. The forsaken were rotten to the core from the very beginning.
Secondly, it is true that LTT might have had some pride since he is called the most powerfull man, and you are correct that this could lead to envy. And it is also true that people might unfairly blame him for the fact that he was unable to neutralise the massive advantage the DO touching the world directly must have given to the enemy.
However, even then, it seems extremely unbelievable that ALL females would oppose him. That would be like every single US democrat deciding to abandon Obama just because he had failed to achieve peace. And I do mean every single one. How realistic is that? Not very. Also remember that the AS would generally be far older, wiser and more experienced than most with a superiour education and as such one could expect them to be more rational and realise that blaming LTT for the DO would be stupid. Not all of them ofcourse, but statistically a higher percentage than the general population I would say.
If tSaSG is to be believed, he only needed seven AS. Seven. SEVEN!
Also I would repeat that LTT did achieve the position as the leader of the AS. A prestigious position that surely required immense charisma and political skill to reach. He was also the one selected to lead the entire war effort. This does not seem like the kind of man who would totally fail at negotiation and politics so completely that not even 7 females would help him. Out of half a million. Something is screwy here.
IIRC, RJ precisely wrote Strike at SG to explain us in more detail, what happened before and during the Strike. I think it's certainly supposed to be cannon.
Yes, ofcourse RJ wrote the thing. But he also wrote it with an in-world description. The whole thing was written by a scholar in WoT world who found a few abandoned texts and documents from the AoL. It is more like the note from Herid Fel. Obviously RJ wrote the note since WoT is fiction, but the canon explanation is that the note was written by Herid Fel, a character of the WoT-universe. Same thing with the SaSG.
So essentially it is more like Moiraine saying something in the books(with the potential to be wrong), and not a case of RJ speaking directly to the fans as the realworld author. Given the whole truth turns to legend turns to myth and is then forgotten thing, RJ(and now BS) could easily have said/say that anything in tSaSG was incorrect due to knowledge lost in the breaking. And for all we know, RJ wrote it like that specifically because he planned to do just that.
LTT and the bore.
