That'll never work! Rather, I suggest the following explanation:
"The Wheel of Time is primarily about a strong-willed young woman who struggles to reform a group of arrogant, magic-wielding super-nuns who, for over 3000 years, have devoted most of their time and energy to maintaining their elitist position in a stagnating society rather than using their power to improve it.
Oh, and there are a lot of cute puppies."
If, after she starts reading (she will, trust me), she inevitably asks "who is this Rand character, and what is this Dragon Reborn and Dark One nonsense", just tell her that it's a side story about one of the minor characters, and that it doesn't get much screen time in the later books.
Hmmm ... actually, that's all pretty much true, except for that bit about the puppies.

How true!
"Take the Gleeman!" Rand and Mat cried, throwing Thom to the Myrddraal. Then they ran away as fast as they could, and Thom's screams quickly faded into the distance along with any inconvenient feelings of guilt.
How can I quickly explain WoT to my friend?
