It's easier to blast than to disassemble. The Aes Sedai will want to put a chain back in later.

Did I miss something or did the damane blast holes in the tower wall quite easily? If I remember correctly Tar Valon (the tower, harbours etc) were 'wrought' using the OP and some help from ogier masons. After Egwene turned the south harbor chain to cuendillar, the Aes Sedai had problems breaking down the parts of the wall which the chain was attached to. If I remember correctly, it took them days. The damane are apparently powerful weapons but are they that powerful so they manage to destroy the things in seconds that takes Aes Sedai several days??
Destruction is always more easy. The Aes Sedai are presumably trying to take the harbor towers apart in pieces, rather than indiscriminately blasting away. I would assume they are trying to keep it as intact as possible to as to facilitate restoration of the chain eventually.

IIRC The White Tower was built to be impregnable against conventional weapons and weather.
