I've seen movie discussion threads come and go for 7 years now as I've followed Wheel of Time closely. A general consensus is that to make a movie, some things would have to be cut in order to fit the movie into a 2 or 2 1/2 hour time slot. But what would you cut? Most people just remark that stuff would have to be cut, but they don't make suggestions.
The start could be massively reduced, if everyone meets a little quicker. Rand and Tam could stay at the inn, cutting most of chapters 5-10 (but still dealing with the attack and the aftermath). Tam's fever speach would need to go somewhere else, and Narg could be hiding in the village if that is important. I don't think it is
Then they need to travel to Caemlyn, so the essentials would be: Min, Ba'alzamon, Shadar Logoth, Mordeth, splitting up, Elyas, Domon, Thom goes missing, darkfriends (preferably at 4 Kings), and rumours of Fain. It would be nice to include the Travelling People, Stedding and Whitecloaks but there might not be enough time. The order of these things can be changed from the books, to make them fit in better.
Rand's trip into the Palace would need to happen, Loial can be introduced when they all meet up. They take a trip through the Ways (much less screen time than the books), and could potentially skip Fal Dara and head straight into the blight. Any reveals about Fain would have to come after they return to Fal Dara.
The Film would also need info dumps about a couple of things that will become important later.
Instead of cutting things, the easiest way is probably to cut almost everything and build it around the important scenes.
I like how you call it "info dumps." That is basically what I had in mind on some things, e.g. Rand reveals they were chased all the way to Caemlyn by darkfriends. No need to "show" it happening 5 times. Just once is enough and then an "info dump" later. I like that term. I think I'll start using that!
EotW movie. What would you cut to make a 2-2:30 movie?
