Agreed, you also need a working brain. Where did Verin's go? Datakim Send a noteboard - 12/12/2009 12:54:17 AM
You know, Kings, Queens, Emperors have had motivation to seek the Fountain of Youth, and many did desperated seeked it. That does not mean anyone who failed is being an idiot.

False analogy. The Fountain of Youth does not exist while a way out of the oath rod with stilling did.

If the Fountain of Youth was real and just located in some remote location that anyone competent and clever should have easily discovered with a bit of logic and a bit of study then yes, that does mean that anyone who failed to find it would indeed be an idiot.

Given today's technology, we say Human Growth Hormone can work to a certain degree, and it is available from urine of very young children. And it had been used as folk remedy for a long time, so there are hints. Does that mean those alchemists, which includes Sir Isaac Newton, who failed to discover and concentrate it are being idiots?

Once more, not a fitting analogy. Isaac Newton did not have the necesary background of science available to make this possible. No matter how smart, he could never have been successfull in this since the technology/science was not available to him.

A closer fit to this would be expecting Verin to have discovered weaves for traveling or something in the start of the series with no clues or supporting knowledge. I obviously don't blame her for failing to do that.

That however is not even remotely close to the case with Verin and the Oath Rod.

And the idea of torturing sisters to test her theory. I mean, wasn't that what the Nazi doctors were accused of doing, and being a war crime? Why don't we experiment on death row inmates, freezing them and then dethaw them to see what happens? Can we realy perserve someone for 1000 years by deep freezing them? To gain knowledge through inmoral human experiments would probably make Verin a true member of the Black Ajah, and make her unwilling to go to the Light.

If she did that, shouldn't she remain a BA, so she can gain more knowledge by doing more experiemnts on regular folks, like finding out how long a person can live with all his blood drained?

I think we know that Verin already did some pretty nasty things. Compulsion which is essentially a form of mind rape for example is seen by many AS as worse than torture. If stilling some hostile BA got her answers, I would say that Verin would have done it if it got her what she needed. Just because Verin ultimately served the light does not mean that she was a fluffy AS full of happy sparkling candy.

And does she know that Stilling breaks the Oaths? *NM* - 09/12/2009 06:16:54 AM 328 Views
She should. Some of the Aes Sedai who swore to Rand had been Stilled and then Restored by Flinn. - 09/12/2009 03:18:10 PM 715 Views
Then, wouldn't the BA/Shadow just kill her off? I think it'd be kind of obvious what she did. *NM* - 09/12/2009 03:23:05 PM 476 Views
I think that's beyond the BA's capabilities. - 09/12/2009 03:48:03 PM 595 Views
Doesn't mean they experimented with it. - 09/12/2009 08:48:23 PM 656 Views
