But there is one important difference between MT and Verin. Verin could be forced to keep her oaths to the DO with the oath rod. Without access to the oath rod, any oath given by Mazrim Taim would not be binding. Thus, I believe that to be safe that MT was on their side, the Black Ajah and/or Forsaken turned MT with 13 Myrdraal.
I could have sworn Verin strongly implied that the oath rod (at least the one in the WT) was not the one that the BA uses to take the Oaths on. I thought she wasn't positive it would even remove her particular oaths. So... there could be another floating around perhaps even the one the Shaido had since it came from Sammael to begin with.
