Unfortunately the story didn't go exactly like Semirhage wanted - she expected torture and pain, but was only given humiliation and cheap interrogation, that eventually broke her. Later however, I think she fully lived up to her legend as the Lady of Pain. Rand was completely broken by her skills. She was by far more sadistic than any of the Chosen have ever been, and she even did it with saidin and physical force - imagine if she'd used her natural abilities.
If you know in your bones that you're that person, does one episode of spanking send you scrambling across the floor to retrieve the beans? I like the scene with Rand. It was exciting and tense. But I do not like the scene with Cadsuane, even though I did think it was unexpected (for me) and mildly amusing.
To be fair, they couldn't stretch the spanking thing out longer than this. It would mean days and weeks of spanking to find a crack and then break her. As it is, BS actually spent a large part of the book showing various Aes Sedai interrogating her. Semirhage has about five or six chapters, which is enormous for any Forsaken.
I also think that Brandon did go into it quite well - Cadsuane's dilemma : how can she break the unbreakable woman. I found it very similar to Rand. I thought he'd spend half the book trying to figure out how to beat Graendal, and but whoosh, it was all over in a blinding light. I'll bet Graendal was in the bath when it happened smiling at how stupid Rand is.

Egwene had the best mix of teachers and a desire to learn. Most believable, IMO. *NM*

I'm re-reading the series now for the first time in years. Egwene has always been a weak character.
