Five hundred men who could channel, however, were a scrap of bone wedged between two of her teeth where she could not free it. Five hundred!"
There is no reason to disbelieve the number. Toveine lives at the BT and certainly got further information from Logain or other AM.

5 barracks that hold 100 Soldiers each but not full yet. So, perhaps 80 in each would be about 400.
12 smaller stone structures able to hold 10 Dedicated each. So perhaps 100 total if they aren't full either.
That's 500 right there, and it doesn't take into account the 200 houses where the men are living with their families. She also mentions her Dormitory where she lives with Logain, but gives no number for that. Also missing is a count of full Asha'man. And doesn't Taim have a small palace of his own?
