I'll be very surprised if it turns out to be the dice, also. The dice are a plot device in Mat's storyline similar to the way that Nyn's storm premonitions happen in her head and also the way that Perrin can feel a blacksmith's puzzle coming together in his head. Sure, Mat seems to have a much closer relationship with his dice, but maybe that could just be chalked up to Mat being the gambler and us having a few more clues about his greater destiny. Just a thought.
