So, it's been years and years of debate. We comb through any answers that RJ, BS, or Team Jordan give for clues. And today, the answer has been found in a colaborative effort of people here at RAFO and at Theoryland.

The key is in the quote below:

"Of course you are." Studying him, she nodded slowly to herself. That cool composure returned. "Of course. Asmodean has been telling you things, about the War of Power, and me. He lies. You did love me. Until that yellow-haired trollop Ilyena stole you." For an instant, rage made her face a contorted mask; he did not think she was even aware of it. "Did you know that Asmodean severed his own mother? What they call stilling, now. Severed her, and let Myrddraal drag her away screaming. Can you trust a man like that?"
tFoH, Chapter 6,, Gateways

Yes, folks, it's true. Asmodean was killed by his own mother. Seeking revenge for being stilled and turned over to Myrddraal, his mother has conquered the grave to get revenge. Imagine his surprise as he exclaims 'You! No!'

It's well known that RJ takes on archetypes and loves to retell the myths and legends of our own world through WOT. It's no surprise that he has chosen to take on Oedipus, though I find this reimagining to be very curious. But, I digress.

The answer is clear, Asmodean was killed by his mother - it always comes back to the mother.

What if it was his mother reborn? Her past life leaked out (maybe she linked with men who can Channel too often or something) and she "remembered" Asmodean stilling her and turning her over to Myrddraal and killed him.
