I don't think I would put too much faith in that.... Light in the Night Send a noteboard - 15/11/2009 09:32:22 PM
..a few days after reading it I still had the urge to tear the page out of the book! But Rand's logic really does make sense. Graendal is smarter than him. He needs to seize any advantage he has immediately. How would you have stopped Graendal in Rand's shoes?

Rand should have disguised himself as Ramshalan, and gone into Graendal's lair with the exact same message.

He goes in holding saidin, however. Now, if things went as he expected (and they did), Graendal would attempt to compel "Ramshalan". This will immediately let Rand know he is in her presence, even if she is disguised. Since he is already holding saidin, he'll be immune to her compulsions, as Sammael said.

He then surprises her and balefires her.

End of story. Forsaken dead beyond the Dark One's grasp, and no other threads of the Pattern Balefired.

Moghedien was holding the Source when she and Cyndane visited Graendal. (In fact, she had just channeled the lights out in the room, causing Graendal to attack.) Graendal successfully snared both Moggy and Cyndane with her weave of Compulsion.

That this scene comes after Sammael's pov, I believe RJ was proving his statement wrong, and Sammael had a false sense of self-security, IMO.
Where once was Shadow
Now reigns Light
Darkness fades
Into the Night
