I suspect that the DO only allowed a minute amount of Balefire.
However, on further thought, I wonder if perhaps a full minute or so was undone, and if in that (no longer existing) minute, Rand actually KILLED Min.
Which could explain what was taken from him - like Mat remembering the Shadow hound's saliva burning his arm even though they were BF'ed. Rand didn't ultimately kill Min - but the clues point to the possibility that he DID experience the act.
