No one can influence how the authors write the story and portray the characters. But it irritates me tremendously that Egwene was portrayed in a more heroic fashion than Rand.

Rand is the Alpha and the Omega, in this world. If he slipped, fell and broke his neck, the world would end. You would think that he might be portrayed as a bit more special than some upjumped innkeep's daughter, who is as ordinary as they come.

It's the author's prerogative, as I said. But I would have written the story differently.

Else you might as well have had all the prophecies about Egwene rather than the most important human ever to be born on the planet.

Egwene's chapters are only accentuated because the unification of the White Tower has been a main theme since book 4. It also involved a lot of political subterfuge and complex details from within the two camps.

Egwene is not portrayed as any more heroic than the other main protagonists. Her goal was to unite the Tower and become Amyrlin which she obtained. Elayne had similar aspirations regarding the Lion Throne, which she also got right - and that took very long and certainly elevated her heroic status. Nynaeve but her own admission in TGS is one of the most powerful and influential women alive, a woman who helped cleanse the taint and who defeated Moghedien, Healed Stilling and other miracles.

All the women have been shown equally I think.

I loved Dark Rand. I agree, I wish he was around longer. Should've come out earlier in the series. - 13/11/2009 03:23:59 PM 497 Views

Reading about a saint is boring. Reading about an imperfect hero is exciting. - 13/11/2009 04:38:24 PM 418 Views

You're right. But I'm very angry with the writers for portraying Egwene in such a positive way. - 13/11/2009 07:18:10 PM 452 Views
