Because he was going his own way? He chastised Nyn
And since when is "my friends did not come up with a better plan" an acceptable excuse for an atrocity?
He may have chastised Nyn but he still listened to her.
As for an acceptable excuse for an atrocity, first you might start by proving there was an atrocity. You have failed to do this thus far.
The ripples of what Rand did were felt as far away as Bandar Eban.
There was ripples. No damage was shown to the pattern other than the intended target.
People in the know, from Nynaeve, to Cadsuane to Sorilea to Rand himself acknowledge that Balefire can greatly harm the Pattern, and large quantities can really destabilize it.
...and yet other than the intended target, the pattern continued.
The pattern would not let this happen if it were not in it's best interest
Now that I'm done, go ahead and prove what I asked you to.
Although I believe you have failed, see above for my response.
Read the damn books. The Pattern has no control over the DO or the True Power. RJ made it abundantly clear the Pattern cannot factor in the DO into its plans. If the Pattern wanted Rand to escape Semrihage, it would have ensured that Aviendha or Nynaeve or Cadsuane were present so they could stop Semi.
And if the Pattern did not want Rand to destroy it, if it had any control over him, i wouldn't have let him come all the way to Dragonmount, to the very brink of destroying all. To quote you, a dead pigeon would have knocked the CK out of Rand's hand when he attacked Tam.
The pattern planned for Rand to go to Dragonmount. Rand goes to Dragonmount.
At the end of time,
when the many become one,
the last storm shall gather its angry winds
to destroy a land already dying.
And at its center, the blind man shall stand
upon his own grave.
There he shall see again,
and weep for what has been wrought.
The pattern planned for Rand to find himself, Rand finds himself.
The pattern lets Rand do what he wants as long as he will still reach the goals the pattern has planned. When Rand tries to go against the pattern he gets tugged back into line. If you read the books you will find that this is most self evident.
Has not the pattern intervened in the past?
Think of how Verin was led to Mat. The pattern gets what the pattern wants. The method the pattern chooses can very to anything as long as the end result matches what the pattern intended.
In all the cases where the Pattern is directly interfering, the people being interfered with feel a tugging sensation. Perrin and Mat felt the same thing Verin felt when they were being pulled in one way or another by the Pattern. Rand felt no such thing when he went to attack Graendal.
Rand was doing what the pattern wanted so the pattern did not have to tug Rand in another direction. The tugging is felt when the pattern makes someone do something they do not want to do.
All good things come to those who wait.
Who performs the worst atrocity in this book: Egwene or Rand? (A good Cannoli question)
