The Ashamen not being used to Saidin being clean.
I think about it like this....during a vacation one year, I was camping for 3 or 4 days. I spent most of that time hiking, climbing, falling down, and getting pretty damn filthy. I had no access to running water and wasn't near a river or lake.
When I got back to civilization and got a shower, I felt like a new man with a new skin.
I imagine the Ashamen felt the same way.
