Oaths don't work that way. The Aes Sedai calmly waited until they were in danger. They couldn't say, "um, yeah, three yards away, only swords, I feel safe". They HAVE to believe it.

A wound that she is very confident she could be healed from doesn't work.

Having a cup of poison with the antidote next to it doesn't work.

Now, if she told, and Egwene just HAPPENED to have the antidote next to her...

Well, that may work. Or, her oath may basically strangle her and kill her anyways.

That's why she needed the oath rod. It was the only way to get out of it without actually having to do something that ENSURED her death.
