While Rand deteriotes Egwene rises, and as some predict, is destined to replace Rand as the true hero of the tale.
This is interesting since it will mirror what happened to Lews Therin's reputation after he went insane and Latra Posae Decume took over. But I think the David parallel can still be applied to Rand during his beginings, especially since Rand was a great musician. It was a great reminder how much Rand loved Thom's harp - in this case, one of David's favored instruments was the lyre.
I think the main similarity is that Rand and Egwene are very similar in temperament and thought process; Rand is more akin to Egwene's older brother than a love interest. In fact, he notes in TSR that she generally pretended to be pointing out something as a new fact after he had already suggested it - she adopts his worldview and opinions because she agrees with them and then acts as if she knew before he did...just like a younger sibling.

If so, then Moiraine will come back from the "dead" and tell him he's gonna lose, too.
